Ermitaño and Jackson are the two beaches around Las Terrenas that no road reaches. You get there by boat, and most days you have them to yourselves.
The morning is spent snorkelling over Jackson Reef, where the coral comes close enough to the surface that you do not need to be a swimmer to see it. Guests who want to go further can add a discovery scuba dive — no certificate needed, an instructor takes you down.
Lunch is a barbecue on the sand: meat or fish, cold cuts, salads, artisan bread, tropical fruit, and both soft and alcoholic drinks. The rest of the afternoon is doing nothing, which is the point.
The Playa Ermitaño tour Samaná runs on Monday and Playa Jackson on Saturday, 9:00 to 15:00, and both go only if the sea allows it.
