Playa Rincón is the beach that puts Samaná on the lists: three kilometres of white sand between Cabo Cabrón and Cabo Samaná, backed by coconut palms, with the cold Caño Frío river running out across it into the sea. Condé Nast Traveler has ranked it among the ten most beautiful beaches in the world.
Getting there is half the day. You go in an open safari truck over the hills, stopping first at the Samaná market — not a tourist market, the one where the town buys its fish and its plantains — and then at a Dominican house to taste passion fruit, mango and chocolate made on site.
You arrive at the beach with time to swim before lunch, which is served there. Lobster can be added for ten dollars if you say so when booking.
The Playa Rincón safari tour leaves on Monday and Thursday, takes the whole day, and lunch on the beach is included — lobster for $10 more.
